PRESIDENT UPDATE
Hi All
A lot of information to present from the last couple of months.
Surburban Rail Loop has a lot of light pollution around their site to the north of Moorabbin Airport. The MAC has been liasing with the SRL to ensure that the lights are dimmed as much as possible as well as angled away from flight paths. If you notice an issue, please get in contact with me and let me now.
Recently the MAC has removed a number of dilapidated buidings from around the airport, all in the aviation precincts. We are unaware of any plans by the MAC to replace these. We are very interested to see what steps, if any, the MAC will be taking here.
Last month, there was an issue with Uber, that had marked any road east of Grange Road, within the airport bounday as not able to be attended to. A quick bit of research showed this was also the case for Essendon Airport, but none of the other GA airports across the country appeared to have been affected. I believe the MAC contacted Uber, as did MACCI and this was resolved within a couple of days. Please let me know if you or your customers have this experience again.
The Department of Infrastructure are currently taking submissions on a potential expansion of the ADSB mandate. For those of you who want to make a submission, please go to the DOI website https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/have-your-say/automatic-dependent-surveillance-broadcast-ads-b-mandate
At the same time, CASA is taking submissions on LAMEs using self-study pathways to cover exclusions on their licence. For those interested, please go to the CASA website https://consultation.casa.gov.au/regulatory-program/cd-2517ms/
Tullamarine Airport has been given approval for their third runway. We are expecting to see signifant changes to the airspace through the entire Melbourne Basin to accomodate the new runway. MACCI put in a submission to the Tuallamarine MasterPlan highlighting concerns and I believe the MAC has already started to engage on the topic. Part of the conversation at the time of the MasterPlan, was the reduction of the Kilmore Gap step by 500ft and the Costal Route around Station Pier to Laverton BOM Tower by 500ft as well. MACCI will be advocating hard for members when the time comes – watch this space!
The Department of Home Affairs has been seen checking ASIC cards around the airport. Please be aware that the penalty for not displaying an ASIC is $8-900 per incident. Having your ASIC hidden from view doesnt appear to be an acceptable excuse (under a sweater/jacket). I would encourage you to make sure your ASIC is clearly displayed. If anyone has received a penalty, please contact me to discuss your options!
Other events that have been occurring
- Members of MACCI CoM have been attending the CAGH meetings and Airport Safety Meetings
- New constructions are occurring at the west end of Northern ave and on the west side of Bundora Parade. Unaware these developments are aviation in nature.
- I will be travelling to Canberra to attend a function in early November. At this time, I am hoping to meet with Senators Bridget McKenzie and David Pocock.
- I am also trying to secure a followup meeting with our local member Mark Dreyfus in the coming weeks.
Kind Regards
Sean Runacres (President)
